Job Posting: Bilingual SEWING INSTRUCTOR

D’ARTillery is a creative social enterprise rooted in the heart of Hamtramck, serving a diverse community of global women through sewing instruction, small-batch production, and programs designed to fuel creativity and economic opportunity.
We are seeking a Part-Time Sewing Instructor with strong experience operating both industrial and home sewing machines to guide students in the production of apparel. This role involves hands-on instruction, coaching students on garment construction techniques, and supporting efficient, high-quality production workflows in a manufacturing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach sewing techniques for apparel construction using both industrial and home sewing machines
Instruct and supervise students in production-based sewing, focusing on quality, speed, and consistency
Demonstrate best practices in machine operation, safety, and maintenance
Support learners in following patterns, cutting fabric, assembling garments, and finishing techniques
Troubleshoot machine or sewing issues and provide individualized guidance
Monitor progress and ensure production standards are met
Help maintain an organized, clean, and efficient studio environment
Assist in preparing materials, tools, and samples for lessons or production sessions
QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years experience in sewing instruction or industrial apparel production (home-based, industrial, or educational setting)
Skilled in operating industrial straight stitch machines, overlock/serger, and home sewing machines
Knowledge of garment construction, apparel finishing, and sewing techniques for woven and knit fabrics
Comfortable teaching beginners and intermediate students in a hands-on environment
Strong attention to detail, with an eye for quality control in production
Ability to explain and demonstrate techniques clearly and patiently
Reliable, organized, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment
BONUS:
Experience in a small-batch production or manufacturing setting
Bi-lingual or multi-lingual (Aramaic or Bangla preferred)
Familiarity with upcycling, sustainability, or fashion design
Experience working in community-based programs or workshops
SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Part-time with flexible scheduling
Evening and/or weekend availability is a plus
Work conducted in a fully equipped garment studio
